Sunflower House Day Nursery Closure
On Friday 1st March 2019, Sunflower House Day Nursery was issued
with an end of tenancy notice requesting the nursery to vacate the
premises by the 2nd September 2019.
By issuing this tenancy nullification, 97 children currently on
roll will no longer have access to a full day care provider which
is lacking in the area currently.
Sunflower House Day Nursery is one of few providers who offer full day care from 7.30am until 6pm for children from 3 month old to 9 years old, all year rounds. Attending the setting are many 24U funded children from some of the most vulnerable families in the area, as well as children on Child Protection and Early Help plans. We also have 3 SEN children in receipt of 121 funding. We offer the 30 hours funding for eligible children with no cap on spaces available, which again is lacking in the area.
Our aim is to remain in the building on a long term lease to ensure continuity of care and education for the children currently attending our setting and for the families in the local area. We believe that the consultation process that was held last May 2018 is flawed and did not take into account the affects of the current tenants, such as ourselves in the buildings that are being reclaimed back by Shropshire Council. Sunflower House was not mentioned in the initial consultation as a location for a new local 'Hub' and therefore the views obtained in the consultation should not be taken into consideration when the decision was made to end the nurseries current tenancy.
There is a high need for more quality childcare providers in the area such as ourselves who have always been a consistently 'Good' rated setting by Ofsted in the 15 years we have occupied the space at Sunflower House. By presenting this petition will show the immense support the nursery has within the local community and the need for it to remain within the Sunflower House building.
