Member Code of Conduct complaint

Want to make a suggestion, compliment or complaint to your local councillor?

You can telephone, e-mail or write to your local councillor. Follow the Councillors link for contact details.

Unhappy with the behaviour of your local councillor?

You should first try to solve your problem locally. Contact your local councillor and/or Shropshire Council Customer Services.

Changes to procedure for complaints relating to the Code of Conduct

On 8 May 2008, the responsibility for considering complaints relating to the possibility of a member breaching the Code of Conduct moved from the Standards Board for England to the standards committees of local authorities.

What this means to you

We recommend that you read the attached complaints guidance note before completing the Member Code of Conduct complaint online form.

Please note that the assessment sub-committee can only deal with complaints about the behaviour of a councillor. It will not deal with complaints about matters that are not covered by the Code of Conduct.

If you make a complaint to the assessment sub-committee it must be about why you think a councillor has not followed the Code. Examples of this include:

  • unlawfully discriminating against someone
  • failing to treat people with respect
  • bullying
  • using their position improperly, to their own or someone else’s advantage or disadvantage.
