Rea Valley local produce market

The most recent Rea Valley local produce market was held on 16th December 2012 at Minsterley village hall. This was the Christmas market, with a host of festive food, drinks and gifts available to buy, and a visit from Father Christmas to hear children's Christmas wishes!
At the Spring market last year visitors were able to see an alpaca, and to order a Jubilee celebration cake from Dom Creighton, who runs Celebration Cakes from her home in Pontesbury. At the summer market we were treated to a dance display by Hanwood Community Dance Group ‘Kickz’, and Surestart used the market as an opportunity to promote their new children’s centre, which is also at Minsterley Parish Hall.
At each market there has been an estimated average footfall of between 500 and 600 people, with 28 local producers selling their produce (all from within a 30 mile radius of Minsterley).
Thanks to everyone who took part in the markets in 2012; we look forward to seeing you again in 2013.
Brilliant news for local businesses!
The Pontesbury and Minsterley Market Towns Revitalisation Committee has agreed to put £16,000 of its funding into a ‘Business Grant Scheme’ to support the local economy, partially because of recent local job losses at ‘Uniq’. While the finer details of the scheme have yet to be established, the principle of it was discussed at the last ‘business breakfast networking’ meeting and met with great enthusiasm. It will be a capital scheme, and businesses trading within the parishes of Minsterley and Pontesbury will be eligible.
Start-up and booster grants will be available, and all grants will need to have 50% match-funding available for the project. The application process is currently being worked on, but one element will be the provision of a robust business plan. The scheme will be administered by Always Consult. Great news for Pontesbury and Minsterley
The Informal Board has agreed the next project! Over the coming months, locals and tourists will begin to see many improvements occurring around the area, as a £26,000 project incorporating cycling, footpaths and signage improvements begins. This project includes improving the drainage in Happy Valley, upgrading footpaths along six spectacular circular routes, new waymarkers and finger posts, a tourist interpretation board in each village, guidebooks and 32 new bike stands. Lastly, each village will have a water fountain where water bottles can be filled by thirsty walkers and cyclists.

The committee is also considering a local sheep sale.
