How would you spend a share of £500,000?
Under Shropshire Council’s new Market Towns Revitalisation Programme, Ellesmere is one of eleven towns that can bid for a share of £500,000, which is available to spend on projects that will provide an immediate boost to the town.
The Shropshire councillors representing the town are now working with town councillors and the local community to identify and prioritise projects.
Under this £500,000 ‘capital initiatives fund’ the maximum support for any individual project will be £50,000. Councillors can submit up to two projects per town with a combined aggregate limit of £75,000. The aim is for every town to receive funding for at least one project.
Your Shropshire councillors can submit initial bids for funding to Shropshire Council up to March next year, with the first successful bids announced in April.
Project proposals for market stalls and associated equipment has been agreed in principle, and formal bids are currently being worked on.
What has been approved in Ellesmere
Local people told their councillors that they wanted better event signage, improved markets and tourist information.
A grant of almost £42,000 has been agreed to address the issues raised. There are four elements to the project which are going to be implemented by Ellesmere Town Council and their local partners.
1. Twelve new portable market stalls with associated equipment. This will be used in the Market Hall and also at Ellesmere events and festivals.
2. Interactive digital display boards to promote the Ellesmere offer and encourage footfall from the mere to the town.
3. Refurbishment of the town's fingerposts and an update of available information.
4. Bespoke event signage at Castlefields and a new Market Hall event notice.
