In 2009, the Information and Research team (the then name of the Intelligence and Research team) carried out a shops survey of towns in Shropshire. The Shops Survey has evolved from a comprehensive floorspace survey which was carried out in 1979. The floorspace figures are updated from known developments identified from the council's Planning and Land Use Monitoring System (PLUMS).
Please note: For 2009, the Information and Research team also used Goad information (copyright Experian 2012) for comparative purposes. Where appropriate, gross floorspace figures for all towns have been updated from Goad floorspace (copyright Experian 2012) or PLUMS. The exceptions to this are Bishop's Castle and Craven Arms, which were updated from PLUMS only.
The results for 2009 are published in a series of information sheets. Overall figures on shopping floorspace in Shropshire can be found in information sheet M02/09, 'Shopping Floorspace 2009'. More detailed figures for the towns of Bishop's Castle, Bridgnorth, Craven Arms, Ellesmere, Ludlow, Market Drayton, Oswestry, Shifnal, Wem, Whitchurch, Shrewsbury Centre and Shrewsbury Suburbs are set out in the M04 series of information sheets.
