In the footsteps of Brother Cadfael

Brother Cadfael self-guided walk

For fans of the fictional monk Brother Cadfael, there's a booklet available which will guide them around Shrewsbury, exploring the town in which the books were set.

Ellis Peters, author of the Brother Cadfael books, based the stories in and around Shrewsbury Abbey and the town. In the footsteps of Brother Cadfael is a series of three walks following metal plates set in the ground, bearing the imprint of a monks foot.

The first walk is based around the abbey, the second takes in Abbey Foregate and up to St. Giles Church, and the third walk, the longest, is in and around Shrewsbury town.

By following these walks, it's possible to see the streets and buildings where the books were set, and to learn more about Shrewsbury in the time of Brother Cadfael.

The booklet is available from the Shrewsbury Visitor Information Centre and is priced at £3.

The Brother Cadfael Chronicles - on sale at Shrewsbury Visitor Information Centre is the full set of the 20 Brother Cadfael books.
