Useful links to information for older people
There are useful links on this page to information on community transport services such as Dial-a-Ride or Shopmobility and links to information about staying active and healthy such as adult education, library services and the walking for health scheme. There is also a link to Staying Put Shropshire which provides information about Mears Handyperson scheme.
We want you to remain living independently at home for as long as possible and offer support to your carers.
Social Care provide a wide range of preventive services before considering the option of a nursing home or care home including:
- home care
- day care
- community meals
- equipment provision to assist with mobility
- adaptations to your home
Some services are provided directly by Adult Social Care and others are provided by private or voluntary organisations like Age UK.
How do I access Social Care services?
Services may be offered following a care assessment. You can be referred for an assessment by your GP, nurse, or through a self-referral by yourself, a friend or relative by contacting our First Point of Contact team on 0345 678 9044.
