11 November 2014 Last updated at 02:04

Starting on Wednesday 19 November 2014, we're offering shoppers in Shrewsbury free parking and park and ride for late night shopping in the run up to Christmas.

The lights switch-on celebration on Wednesday 19 November marks the launch of late-night shopping for 2014 in Shrewsbury, and every Wednesday up until Christmas people can either travel for free on park and ride or park for free in the following council-owned long-stay car parks after 4pm:

  • Frankwell Main
  • St. Julian’s Friars
  • Abbey Foregate
  • or travel for free after 4pm on the park and ride.

The Shrewsbury park and ride service operates from Harlescott, Meole Brace and Oxon sites, and will run every 15 minutes until 9pm on a Wednesday evening. All journeys starting after 4pm on the park and ride will be free. The last buses leave the park and ride sites for Shrewsbury town centre at 8.45pm. The last park and ride buses leave the town centre at 9pm, and the gates at the park and ride sites will be locked at approximately 9.30pm.

Claire Wild, cabinet member for highways and transport, said:

“I am really pleased to be able to offer a choice of free parking or park and ride, to enable more people to enjoy the celebrations on Wednesday nights and to help support the town centre traders who are offering late night shopping in the run up to Christmas.”
