What we do with your data

In line with legislation, we collect your name, address and registration date as a minimum. However, we like to capture more information in order for us to evaluate and gain a clearer picture of housing demand.

By signing up to our self-build register you agree for us to hold personal information for the sole purpose for which it's intended.

We're committed to protecting your personal information and respecting your privacy. Personal information is defined as any details that will enable you to be identified, such as ID numbers, name, address, email address.

When designing and executing our survey it's our policy to take all necessary steps to ensure that the personal information you provide is processed fairly and lawfully. Only authorised staff will have access to that personal information, and they're obliged to respect its confidentiality.

We don't sell, rent or exchange any personal information supplied by you to any third party, nor do we use any of the information you provide for marketing. There is a question in the online survey which will require you to agree to us sending you information by email.

It's our policy to monitor our internal procedures regularly to ensure compliance with the relevant statutory requirements in all that we do, including the Data Protection Act 1998.

Why we collect this information

We like to keep you updated and informed when plots are brought to our attention so that we can signpost you to developers' websites with available plots, as well as providing self-build newsletters and links to further useful information. Again, this information is used to provide statistical data in understanding housing needs.

Information sharing

We will NOT share your information with anyone else other than for the purpose of meeting the interest and demand for self build in the county of Shropshire. Your information isn't passed on to any third party. Any information we publish as headline data is only used for statistical purposes and will not include any personal data.

What we do with your info

  • Monitor housing demand
  • Match up your registered details with plots of land available through developers or land that we own
  • Produce high-level trend analysis data to provide a picture of demand in Shropshire

How long do we hold your data

We use SurveyMonkey to collect the data. Data is removed from SurveyMonkey on a weekly basis and transferred to our own self-build register, which is held on secure servers on the Shropshire Council network. The information held on our self-build register will remain on our secure servers until such time that you request for your details to be removed.

We check our policies regularly to ensure compliance with the relevant statutory requirements in all that we do, including the Data Protection Act 1998.
