Oswestry residents can find out how to bid for funds from a new ‘community chest’ when the new ‘Action: Oswestry Town’ local joint committee meets for the second time on Monday 8 September. The meeting, to be held at Beech Grove CE (Controlled) Primary School, Beech Grove, Oswestry starts at 7.00pm, and all people living in the town are invited to attend.

People at the meeting will be told how local groups can bid for some of the committee’s £25,000 of funding, and will also be able to discuss opportunities for young people in the town.

For the first time, the meeting will also be combined with the Oswestry East and Oswestry West PACT (Partners and Communities Together) meetings, giving people the chance to meet officers from their local policing team and have their say on how the area is policed.

Joyce Barrow, Shropshire County Councillor for Oswestry and chairman of the committee, said: “I would like to invite all people living in Oswestry to come and join us at the next meeting, and I would particularly like to encourage young people living in the town to come along and have their say. Everyone at the meeting will be able to tell us how they think the area could or should be improved, and how the committee should spend its money to benefit the town.”

'Action: Oswestry Town' is a pilot series of meetings to be held four times over the next year. Each meeting will give people in the area a chance to meet with local councillors, get involved in decisions affecting their community and help decide how the committee spends its budget.

The committee’s first meeting was held on 7 May, when the two key agenda items were ParkRight and the administering of parking tickets, and the issue of speeding in the Oswestry town area.

The 'Action: Oswestry Town' committee includes local councillors from Shropshire County Council, Oswestry Borough Council and Oswestry Town Council. It covers the Oswestry Town Council area.
