Service charities - information and advice
The Veterans' Gateway is the first point of contact for veterans seeking support. It puts veterans and their families in touch with the organisations best placed to help with the information, advice and support they need – from healthcare and housing to employability, finances, personal relationships and more.
The Veterans’ Gateway is made up of a consortium of organisations and armed forces charities, including The Royal British Legion, SSAFA (the armed forces charity), Poppyscotland, Combat Stress and Connect Assist.
You can speak to one of their team by phone or email. They're available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, to put you in touch with the help you need, or direct you to the information you're looking for. Call 0808 802 1212.
The Service Pupil Premium (SPP)
The SPP is a fund of £300 per child of service personnel paid directly to the school designed to assist state schools, academies and free schools in England to provide mainly non-educational support (pastoral care) to those children of service personnel in reception through to year 11. In Shropshire we have over 600 pupils classified as ‘service children’.
The SPP helps schools to support the unique challenges children with parents in the armed forces can often face. The SPP has been put to good use in many schools across England.
Service parents who have children attending schools in England are urged to let their child’s school know about their child’s service status.
