Shropshire Council has been working with parents, pupils and staff at Morda Primary School to improve crossing facilities outside the school.
What has been done?
- In recent years, Shropshire Council has funded the introduction of amber flashing warning lights and a number of studies into measures to improve safety and reduce traffic speeds.
- In 2007, the council consulted on proposals for a 20mph zone (with speed ‘cushions’), zebra crossing and changes to lines and/or kerbs near Morda Post Office. The results of the consultation were positive and further work is now taking place with a view to introducing some measures later this year.
- In June 2008, a temporary School Crossing Patrol started helping children to cross outside the school and this will continue until the end of 2008. During the summer holidays, Phase 1 of the Safer Routes to School project was implemented. This involved additional school signs and changes to lines at the crossroads on Morda Road, Trefonen Road and Weston Road.
- In October 2008, during the school October half-term break, additional carriageway surfacing and footway widening works took place on Erw Wen, at its junction with Morda Road.
