Important update re ceremonies booked for May, June and July

27 April 2020 Last updated at 01:02

March and April 2020

Ceremonies booked for March and April 2020 have not been able to proceed due to the current restrictions introduced by the Government in response to the Covid 19 pandemic.

We continue to advise customers with ceremonies booked in May and June to reschedule their ceremonies as of today, 27 April 2020 this service have rearranged over 350 ceremonies which were due to take place during this period.  Ceremonies will only take place in the event that restrictions are lifted by the Government, this is not a local decision.

We will be contacting couples 3 months ahead of the month of their intended ceremony to advise them according to the most up to date information we have available.

Please watch this page for updates.

July 2020

The Government are due to provide further updates in relation to the current restrictions which have been imposed and which currently prevent ceremonies from being held,  and this is to happen sometime on or around 7 May 2020.  Following on from this announcement things may be a little clearer as to whether or not your planned ceremony can take place and if so what that may look like.  At that point we would like to provide a 10 day amnesty for couples to do one of the following things:

  • Pay for their outstanding balance as expected – anticipating that the ceremony will go ahead as planned
  • Cancel their arrangements with Shropshire Registration Service – if you have already paid your full balance this will be refunded to you with the exception of your non-refundable booking fee/deposit (notice of marriage fees are not included) – cancellations will be accepted for 10 days following the government announcement under these provisions.  Cancellations made before the government announcement and after the 10 day amnesty will be subject to our usual terms and conditions of cancellation.
  • Postpone/Reschedule their booking arrangements – at no extra cost for your ceremony at any civil venue within the Shropshire Council Area for a date within the next 2 years. Requests to postpone or reschedule a ceremony booking before the government announcement will attract an administrative fee of £25.00, postponements and rearrangements after the government announcement will attract no additional fee.

Following the announcement by the government, please notify us of your decision by email sent to registrars@shropshire.gov.uk with the following information:
