Retail relief 2019
In the Autumn Budget on 29 October 2018, the Government announced that it will provide for a business rates Retails Discount scheme in each of the 2019-20 and 2020-21 financial years.
The value of the discount will be one third of the bill after any other reliefs have been applied.
Properties that will benefit from the relief will be occupied retail properties with a Rateable Value of less than £51,000, that are wholly or mainly being used as shops, restaurants, cafes and drinking establishments. This is considered to mean that properties used for the sale of goods, or provision of certain services, to visiting members of the public would be entitled to the relief.
Properties that are being used for Financial Services, Other Services (e.g. estate agents, letting agents), Medical Services (e.g. Vets, Dentists), Professional Services (e.g. solicitors, doctors) and Post Office Sorting Offices will not qualify for the relief.
