Shropshire Council

Are council services affected?

Recycling and waste services

We're working closely with our partner Veolia to minimise the impact of coronavirus on recycling and waste services, and ask households that are self-isolating take note of the UK Government’s ‘Stay at home’ advice when disposing of personal waste. We have issued a statement about this on our Newsroom (19 March 2020).

Updates can be found on the 'Recycling and rubbish' section of our website.

Education services

Please see the 'Shropshire Council reaction to the government’s school closures announcement' statement on our Newsroom and our 'Coronavirus: school and childcare advice for parents and guardians' press release.

Library services

Please see our 'Changes to Shropshire library services due to coronavirus' press release on our newsroom.

Libraries, leisure centres, museums and country parks

Please see our 'Coronavirus: Libraries, leisure centres, museums and country parks to close' press release on our newsroom.

Bus services

Bus services are now operating on new timetables - please see our 'Coronavirus: Changes to Arriva bus timetables from Monday 23 March' press release on our newsroom - although this is currently under review owing to the new stay at home rules.

To enable the elderly and vulnerable to take advantage of the exclusive early morning shopping times being offered by some supermarkets and shops, concessionary bus travel passes can now be used before 9.30am, with immediate effect and until further notice.

Registrars services - weddings, civil services, funerals, and certificate requests

All appointments relating to births, deaths and notice of marriage or civil partnership are now cancelled.

All ceremonies due to take place between 24 March 2020 and 1 June 2020 are postponed. Any ceremonies booked for after this date will be honoured, and we'll notify relevant parties if this changes.

Certificate application services are suspended until further notice. Read the full details in the 'Births and marriages' section of our website.

Funeral gatherings in the chapel at Longden Road Cemetery and in the service room/chapel at Emstrey Crematorium, Shrewsbury, must be limited to those officiating and immediate families only. By immediate families we mean grandparents, parents, siblings, spouses and offspring. Read the full details on the 'Bereavement services' section of our website.
