Shropshire Council

About us

Abbots Wood logoAbbots Wood provides day services for adults who have learning disabilities. We use a PFI building, located on Eskdale Road, Shrewsbury (SY2 5UD) as our base.

We provide three service activity areas: building, community and digital. These services operate daily Monday to Friday, and our dedicated well-trained staff are committed to provide high-quality services to support all those who are assessed to attend.

We have approximately 38 service users, who range in age from 18 to 70+, all having differing abilities, skills and needs.

All staff work in a person-centred manner, and flexibly provide tailor-made activities, which promotes wellbeing, individual interest and individual outcomes.

The building

Abbots Wood buildingOur building is designed to offer many activities: arts and crafts, quizzes, exercise options including a small gym with various equipment, gardening, cooking/baking, music and computers. We also use our spacious outdoor areas to ride our various bicycles, undertake gardening and play outdoor games.

Being inclusive, we involve our attendees in meetings to share their thoughts and ideas, and they have an opportunity to contribute to themes for various fairs, fetes and BBQs, and assist in all the necessary preparations and planning, including inviting and encouraging their families and our local community to attend.
