See Hear 2019

See and Hear Shropshire is coming back for its 13th year and is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever!

When

10am - 4pm, Wednesday 13th May 2020.

Where

Shrewsbury Sports Village, Sundorne Road, Harlescott, SY1 4RQ

Who should attend?

The event is free and open to everyone to try out equipment and learn more about the support on offer to help improve the quality of life for those with sensory impairment, such as hearing or sight loss.

It's a great opportunity for peer support, networking, gaining knowledge and sharing information with others and is important to all.

Getting there

Entrance is free, and there will be a free dial-a-ride shuttle bus every half an hour from Shrewsbury Train Station to the Shrewsbury Sports Village, starting at 9:30am. Parking at the Sports Village site will also be free.

This year's program will feature:

  • This years exhibition will be opened by Hugh Strickland, Chairman of RCC
  • Exhibitors offering information, advice and demonstrations of the latest assistive technology. Take a look at the list of exhibitors coming so far!
  • Boccia Tournament – hosted by Shropshire Disability Network
  • Seminars and Workshops covering Genetics and Sight Loss, Mental Health and more!
  • All-ability cycling organised by Sight Loss Opportunity Groups, Shropshire RCC
  • Hearing Aid Maintenance Clinic, run by Shrewsbury and Telford’s Audiology Department – Sponsored by Salop Leisure
  • Diabetes Awareness Sessions run by Shropshire RCC

Andrew Scott, ENT Consultant for Shrewsbury and Telford NHS Trust will give a talk on Intratympanic therapies for hearing loss with a particular focus on Shropshire.

Mental Health Activist –
What does this mean?

Lynda will be talking about recovering from mental illness, and how just like with a physical illness or disability, we may have to learn to adapt our lives accordingly. To learn to self-manage our days from becoming too stressful, and most importantly, that whether we have a mental, or physical disability or both, We should never give up on ourselves. Whenever possible, in the words of Monty Python, "Always look on the bright side of life".

Diabetes Awareness Sessions

Morning Session
10.30am - 12.00pm

This session will give useful information on lifestyle adjustments that can help to control the effects of Diabetes. Topics covered will include medication management, foot care, eye-screening, exercise and healthy eating.  Attendance is free of charge but places must be booked in advance. This Awareness raising programme is suitable for people with Diabetes, their family and carers.  It is also valuable to people who are at risk of developing Diabetes.

Afternoon Session
1.30pm - 3.00pm

This session will give useful information on lifestyle adjustments that can help to control the effects of Diabetes. We recommended to book for the seminars and diabetes awareness sessions to ensure your place; to do this you can phone Pauline Rose on 01743 257746 or you can send an email to Hannah.Gittins@shropshire.gov.uk with “See and Hear Bookings” as the subject. Please include your name, the name(s) of the seminar(s) you wish to attend and the number of places you wish to reserve in the body of the email. You will receive a confirmation email to confirm your places have been booked. Please note our seminars are always free and you do not need to print your confirmation for the day.
