If you think you are at risk of flooding, do not rely on sand bags for the protection of your home or business. Sand bags are not effective at keeping flood water from your property, are difficult to handle and troublesome to dispose of.
There are many things that you can do to be better prepared for flooding, however. If you live in an area which may be at risk of flooding, you should ensure that you are properly prepared. You can apply for a free property flood protection assessment to find out which flood products may be suitable for your property. In some cases we may also be able to assist with funding for flood protection measures on residential properties.
We hold limited stocks of sandbags for pickup by the public at our highways depots around the county. Supply is on a ‘first come, first served’ basis and limited to ten sandbags per collection during a flood event or when a flood event is predicted. However, in the first instance, please contact our Customer Service Centre on 0345 678 9006.
Delivery by the council to individual properties will only be undertaken in exceptional circumstances.
Those collecting sandbags will be responsible for their disposal. Disposal should be via the ‘non-recyclable waste’ section at a local recycling centre.
