Examination of the Draft Shropshire Local Plan (2016-2038)

The draft Shropshire Local Plan (2016 – 2038) was submitted to the secretary of state for examination on 3 September 2021.

The secretary of state has appointed Planning Inspectors Louise Crosby MA MRTPI, Elaine Worthington MTP MUED MRTPI IHBC and Nick Palmer BA (Hons) BPI MRTPI to carry out an independent examination of the draft Shropshire Local Plan (2016 – 2038). The purpose of this examination is to assess whether the draft Shropshire Local Plan (2016 – 2038) meets the tests of soundness defined in the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF) (explained in paragraphs 35-36 of the NPPF) and meets all the relevant legislative requirements, including the duty to co-operate.

In assessing whether the draft Shropshire Local Plan (2016 – 2038) is sound and meets all the relevant legislative requirements, including the duty to co-operate, the Planning Inspector will consider the supporting evidence provided by the Council and all the representations made under Regulation 20 (in response to the Regulation 19 consultation).

At the end of the examination, the Planning Inspector will send a report to the council, recommending whether or not the draft Shropshire Local Plan (2016 – 2038) can be adopted. This report may also recommend any 'main modifications' that are necessary to allow the draft Shropshire Local Plan (2016 – 2038) to be adopted. 

Shropshire Council has now appointed Kerry Trueman as the Programme Officer for the examination of the draft Shropshire Local Plan (2016 – 2038), to assist with its organisation and administration. The Programme Officer works for the Planning Inspectors and co-ordinates all communications between the Planning Inspectors, the council, and other participants in the examination process. The Programme Officer’s contact details are:
