The LLPG for Shropshire

The Local Land and Property Gazetteer (LLPG) is a single source of address and location data created by Shropshire Council. It is a list of all properties and land parcels that fall within the Shropshire boundary. The LLPG is a single central land and property database where address changes are made once and shared across all other departments ensuring consistent use of the information.

All local authority LLPGs are created to a common standard, British Standard BS7666. The British Standard BS7666 requires the creation of a Unique Property Reference Number (UPRN) for each property within the gazetteer, together with a spatial location recorded using a grid reference. This allows each property to be identified and mapped spatially using GIS (Geographical Information Systems).

Using these two unique references we are able to join together the records within departmental systems and identify what they are and where they are. This is essential to the efficient and accurate working of the electronically enabled systems for Planning, Customer Service, Revenues and Benefits and Electoral Registration. It generates substantial savings for the council.

The LLPG for Shropshire Council sends daily updates to the National Land and Property Gazetteer (NLPG). The NLPG allows outside agencies, such as the Ministry of Justice with the new Electoral registers, the Office of National statistics for the Census in 2011, and the emergency services, amongst others, to access accurate address data.
