Due to the situation with Covid 19, Shropshire Councils Registration Service are operating in a different way please see below:

General information for Visitors to the Register Office

  • If you or any member of your household are exhibiting symptoms of covid 19 please do not attend your appointment.
  • If on arrival any customer appears to be exhibiting symptoms of Covid 19 - they will not be seen by a registrar
  • A maximum number of 2 adults per appointment are permitted
  • Wherever possible please do not bring children or babies with you to the office
  • Public Toilets will be closed
  • Please arrive at the time of your appointment - if you are early wait outside the office until your appointed time
  • If you are more than 5 minutes late you will not be seen
  • On road parking is available immediately outside the office and is clearly marked.
  • Contactless payments are preferred, no cash will be accepted
  • Social distancing measures are in place throughout the office.


Death Registrations are being done by telephone, you do not need an appointment.  The Doctor who is responsible for certifying the death will send the required paperwork through to the registrar by email.  You should telephone 0345 678 9016 and speak to a customer advisor to inform us that you need to register a death.  We will then contact you by telephone.  You can order copies of the Death certificate from the registrar and these will be sent out to you by first class post.  The green form for the funeral director will be sent to them by the registrar.


It is now possible to register the birth of your child, however only the Shropshire Register Office, Shrewsbury is open at present

Notices of Marriage and Notices of Civil Partnership

It is now possible to give notice of your intention to marry or to enter a civil partnership.  This facility is only available at the Shropshire Register Office, Shrewsbury at present.
