Shropshire Council

Beam is an emotional health and wellbeing service for young people under 25 years old who are registered with a GP in Shropshire, and Telford & Wrekin. We offer young-person focused support. There are no waiting lists, and no referral is needed.

We can help with anything relating to emotional wellbeing, and take the time to listen to whatever it is that's troubling you. We aim to boost the resilience of young people by helping them to develop coping strategies when life presents challenges.

How is support provided?

All of our support is appointment-based. Once registered with the service, we'll send an appointment offer to you via email.

The majority of support Beam offers is via phone. We also offer virtual sessions via Microsoft Teams. We have very limited face to face appointments available at our Wellington venue, but these are on a strict appointment-only basis. We're not able to accommodate walk-ins.

What Beam can do

We can recommend strategies and techniques that aim to make life easier – for example, how to manage a panic attack, or how to improve sleep.

We'll give practical suggestions and advice – this might be suggesting useful websites or contacting another service. We can provide a listening ear if you have something to get off your chest.

Beam is a service for and about young people. We recognise there are instances where it's necessary to support parents and carers, but the amount of parent/carer support we can offer is limited. We may be able to signpost to other services or useful resources.

What Beam won't do

Beam doesn’t diagnose or assess any conditions, and won’t automatically make referrals into other services.

Registering and requesting support

All requests for support need to be sent via our website.

Scroll down to ‘register with us’ and complete your details on the online form. Please note that this link should also be used to request additional support – the form will ask if you've already registered with us so you won’t need to complete all your information again.

Young people aged 14+ can request support themselves. Young people aged 13 and under will need a parent/carer to request support on their behalf.
