Attn headteacher, senior leaders, SENCo

Please find attached details of this year’s (21/22) National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination (NASENCo) which is due to start on Friday 15 October. Expressions of interest are required by 1 October.

The nationally recognised award fulfils the training requirements of the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice (2015) which envisages that a SENCo will provide leadership and professional guidance to colleagues and will work closely with staff, parents and carers, etc. It challenges SENCos to promote person-centred, inclusive practice in which the interests and needs of pupils and young people with SEN and/or disabilities are at the heart of everything that they do.

Student endorsement 20/21: "Due to the learning that has been undertaken on this course, I will be stepping in to a new role in my work place as of September. I feel this course has prepared me well to take on the role SENCo and I look forward to using my new knowledge in the workplace."

(Please note: For SENCos new to the role, it is mandatory (in England) to achieve the Award within three years of appointment)
