Shropshire Provision Guidance for SEND
There needs to be an effective and consistent approach to the identification of children and young people requiring SEN support across all settings in Shropshire. Settings need to be confident in the implementation of high quality provision and intervention to meet the identified needs of individuals and to access or commission specialist services if required. The SEND Code of Practice (2014) states:
“All schools should have a clear approach to identifying and responding to SEN. The benefits of early identification are widely recognised – identifying need at the earliest point and then making effective provision improves long-term outcomes for the child or young person.”
This guidance booklet aims to provide advice and support to school practitioners, principally, special educational needs coordinators (SENCos), who have day-to-day responsibility for the operation of the SEN Policy and co-ordination of specific provision made to support individual pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND). It provides recommendations and prompts to ensure effective and consistent provision for Shropshire children and young people with SEND.
