Sundorne Road Service Road Traffic

We the undersigned petition the council to After many years of campaigning, the residents want the Council to monitor properly the traffic using this Service Road (runs parallel with the main road) as a rabbit-run/rat-run to beat waiting traffic on the main Sundorne Road - B5062. Traffic calming needs to be considered, i.e. making the road one-way, access only to properties or bollards at the bottom end of the road to stop racing traffic.

There is evidence of near misses involving children, damage to vehicles and damage to grassed areas.

Video evidence is available of drivers who queue jump.

Recorded evidence of a serious accident between a car and a cyclist. Nearly two years ago, a recorded accident occurred, involving a cyclist and car. The cyclist was hospitalised for approximately 10 weeks.

Council have not monitored the amount of traffic at busiest times (0800 - 0930 and 1600 - 1800).

Incidents reported to the Police have not been investigated and they do not attend. The Council rely upon incidents reported, rather than the evidence of residents. Relying on the Police reports distorts the true picture in that damage to vehicles and near misses, including danger to life and limb are not take into consideration. The lack of reporting is, sadly, due to a lack of confidence in any action being taken by the Police. It is well known that police resources are low and incidents are prioritised - it is unlikely officers will attend a broken door mirror or scratched car door. In basic terms, attention to the residents' dilemma requires another serious accident resulting in death or serious injury.

The issues with this road seem to be getting more dangerous, drivers are aggressive both verbally and with their driving and have no care for other road users.

Our local member has been asking for support since 2015. During the last two years, the Member has been encouraged by a senior officer to follow that Officer's advice. However, that Officer seems to have made the decision not to go forward with a project of prevention.

Residents have witnessed many incidents which include near misses involving children, damage to vehicles and grassed areas.
