Volunteering for Shropshire's Heritage
We're one year into our exciting three year long Heritage Lottery funded project, Volunteering for Shropshire's History and are working with volunteers at Shropshire Archives, Shrewsbury Museum & Art Gallery and Ludlow Museum Resource Centre. Volunteers are cataloguing, conserving, digitizing and promoting everything from medieval Shrewsbury Borough records to Silurian fossils. So long as we have the capacity and resources to support you, you're very welcome to contribute as much or as little time as you wish.
We have volunteers from a diverse range of backgrounds, and with a variety of needs and motivations. Young people and older people; people looking for a new skill or to meet other people; people looking to expand their CV or to acquire local knowledge. As part of the project we can provide work placements for Year 10 students, as well placements at undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Astonishingly, volunteers have already contributed work with a financial value of over £300,000. This means that thousands of historic records and objects are being 'unlocked' and made accessible. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact the Project Manager John Benson.

Shropshire Family History Society Volunteers
On Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday mornings, volunteers from the Shropshire Family History Society provide extra help to users of the service. They can spend extra time with those new to genealogy or those who need help using the variety of on-line family history sites. Volunteers are recruited by the Shropshire Family History Society and we liaise with the volunteer co-ordinator.
