Road closure - Frodesley Lane Closure - Culvert Replacement Scheme

This information is correct at the time of publishing but could be subject to change either due to circumstances beyond our control, or should other works come in that make it more efficient and less disruptive to reschedule

Closure details

  • Starts: 4 September 2023
  • Ends: 18 October 2023
  • Running: 24 hours
  • Central Shropshire

A culvert replacement scheme is due to be undertaken at Frodesley Lane, Longnor, Shrewsbury. The works involve the replacement of the failed culvert and reinstatement of the carriageway.

In order to undertake these works, the road will be closed for a period of six weeks to minimise disruption. The works are programmed to start on 4 September 2023 for 6 weeks, with the road closed to traffic for 24 hours a day until the completion of the works. Normal working hours will be between 7.30am and 5pm Monday to Friday.

The target completion date is 6 October 2023.

During the road closure, traffic will be diverted via local roads by a signed diversion route.

The contractor carrying out the work will be Kier, with supervision being carried out by WSP on behalf of Shropshire Council.

Update 5 October 2023

The works began on 6 September 2023 and were expected to last until 6 October 2023. There has been a full closure of Frodesley Lane with a signed diverted traffic route in place for the duration of these works.

Due to a series of unavoidable delays on site the closure will need to be extended until 18 October 2023. The delays are the result of the following unforeseen circumstances:

  • Heavier rainfall than average for September has been experienced
  • A STW main was discovered in an unexpected location
  • The pre-cast concrete box culvert units were delivered one week late, due to supply chain issues, outside of our control

In order to mitigate these delays as much as possible we have been reassessing the requirements onsite of the design and also working weekends where possible. However, due to specific constraints on the curing and implementation of some construction processes, there are some operations which we cannot accelerate.

We apologies for any inconvenience these delays may cause to the community and thank you for your patience at this time.

If you have any queries regarding the extended closure date, please do not hesitate to contact Shropshire Council Highways Customer Services Centre on 0345 678 9006.
