Individual employer and personal assistant workforce survey

Skills for Care asking both individual employers and personal assistants (PA) to complete a workforce survey so the Department of Health and Social Care, NHS England, Skills for Care and others can gain insight from both viewpoints. This will help them to better understand how the workforce operates and support them to make decisions on how best to support both individual employer and PA workforce.

The closing date for both surveys is Friday 16 February 2024.

Individual employer funding People who employ personal assistants can apply for money to pay for training to develop the knowledge and skills of their personal assistants and themselves as an employer. This opportunity is open to people who are in receipt of a social care direct payment and those that use their own money to employ personal assistants. Funding can be used for:

  • personal assistants training and development needs
  • the development of their knowledge and skills as an employer of personal assistants
  • hiring replacement support whilst their usual PA is attending training courses and travel.

People can apply any time before 5pm on 15 March 2024.

Skills for Care national event for individual employers and those supporting them – National event

In March 2024, Skills for Care be hosting an online national event to showcase what’s happening in different parts of the country in relation to supporting individual employers and developing the knowledge and skills of the personal assistant workforce.

This free to attend, virtual event will be of interest to anyone working with or holding an interest in supporting this part of the workforce.

Retention of personal assistants in social care workshop

On Thursday 28 March 2024, 10:00-11:00, Skills for Care are hosting an insightful 60 minute workshop on retaining personal assistants in social care.
