Training and development opportunities
No matter where you start or what path you want to take, there are always opportunities to progress and develop in adult social care. Maybe you'd like to work with a different group of people, specialise in a certain area, or take on more responsibility.
We're passionate about developing and empowering individuals to deliver a quality service to those we support, and also that our staff have opportunities which support their development and enable career progression. There are many vocational qualifications at all different levels to help you carve a truly rewarding career.

Induction
Introducing you to Shropshire Council and Adult Social Care’s visions, aims, priorities and core values and with contributions from senior managers, your induction will involve face to face input as well as access to online modules.
Training
We offer a wide range of corporate and adult social care training opportunities, including a combination of face to face and online delivery.
Our Joint Training team is an established part of Shropshire Council, providing adult health and social care training, offering a comprehensive range of learning and development opportunities from short, accredited courses to bespoke courses.

- Management of actual and potential aggression MAPA
- Mental Capacity Act (MCA) and Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DoLS)

Professional Development
Our Professional Development team supports the professional development of social workers and occupational therapists co-ordinating and developing placements for social work and occupational therapy students, and the assessed and support year in employment (ASYE) for newly qualified social workers. We provide a course for social care practitioners in partnership with Chester University which can provide a gateway to training as a social worker.
The team has a dedicated approved mental health practitioner (AMHP) lead who supports the following accredited courses:
- Decision Making
- Pre-AMHP training
- AMHP training with Wolverhampton and Chester Universities
We work in partnership with regional higher education institutes (HEIs) to commission a range of training for qualified social workers, occupational therapists, and other professional staff employed in social care. We also work with the private, independent and voluntary sectors in the provision of practice learning opportunities for social work students.
We represent Shropshire Council at regional forums on workforce issues for social work and social care, alongside other local authority partners and national organisations, eg Skills for Care.
Apprenticeship opportunities
A unique, new way of developing professional, job-specific skills whilst remaining in employment and earning a salary. Formal accredited apprenticeship development opportunities aid career progression. Courses include:
- Lead adult care worker – level 2
