Shropshire’s Economic Growth Strategy 2022-2027
Collectively with our partners, stakeholders and business community and with the support of the Economic Taskforce we have worked to establish clear ambitions, focus and values to help drive the economic growth and prosperity of Shropshire.
For the first time we have identified and prioritised key values – resilience, inclusivity, sustainability, wellbeing and health, which have been integrated within the development and delivery of activities. The growth we want to see in Shropshire must be in line with and driven by these values, respectful of the climate crisis and sustainable enough to respond to the challenges ahead. This will help deliver a Healthy Economy as part of the council’s Shropshire Plan.
We want to see Shropshire experience ‘good growth in the right place,’ with resilient town centres and strengthening growth in our key sectors that highlights innovative uses of our environment and seeks to enhances it. That could be through further development of renewable energy sources and technology, active place-making, Agri-Tech and agriculture advancements, logistic innovation or new and interesting visitor attractions and cultural offerings that bring tourists into the area and provide activities that enhance our residents experience of living in Shropshire.
Developing and growing our green economy, alongside decarbonisation is key. Utilising our unique environment and high-quality assets alongside developing, upskilling and retraining our workforce is our biggest opportunity.
Focussed around the three key themes of supporting local businesses, strategic locations / place and employment and skills we have established the Shropshire Economic Partnership(SEP) which is made up of public and private sector representatives who will work collectively to deliver the action plan and key activities as they are developed over the next 5 years.
