Eligibility for free Covid testing in adult social care
The most up to date information we have is paragraph 1.2 from the guidance which was amended yesterday.
Personal assistants are eligible for free testing if they're directly employed by an individual (or self-employed) to provide care and support to an adult to enable them to live as independently as possible. This care could include support in the home, or to go out into the community.
Further guidance states:
- Staff should conduct two LFD tests per week, taking them before they begin work, spaced three to four days apart. This also applies to staff who provide care and support to the individual they live with, for example live-in carers
- If an individual experiences any of the main symptoms of coronavirus they should immediately take a lateral flow device (LFD) test as soon as they develop symptoms and take another LFD test 48 hours after the first test
We understand that sourcing tests may still be difficult due to low supplies, but all employed and self-employed personal assistants are eligible for free testing.
