As lead local flood authority one of our roles is to ensure that we manage building and construction work in a manner that does not increase flood risk and, wherever possible, reduces it.

To do this:

• We work with planning policy colleagues to direct development towards areas at low risk of flooding
• We review and comment on planning applications to ensure that appropriate Sustainable Drainage Systems (SuDS) are implemented
• We manage works that affect ordinary watercourses
