Llanyblodwel bridge is a 400-year-old Grade II-listed structure that has suffered repeated damage from vehicles, causing inconvenience to road users and expensive repair costs.

Following on from the most recent damage to the bridge, we've been looking at measures to prevent this from happening again in the future, and we're considering imposing a 2.4m width restriction for vehicles who use the bridge and are keen to hear your views.

The narrowest section of the bridge measures 2.74m. We've determined that the following vehicles would be able to use the bridge with care:

  • 3.5t panel van (eg Ford Transit)
  • Fire engine
  • Ambulance
  • Small tractors (without trailer)

All of these are typically 2.2m wide or less. To restrict larger vehicles from using the bridge we'd need to introduce physical width restrictions using bollards or other means at both ends of the bridge.

The attached plan shows the signage that would be required to inform drivers of the width restriction.

If we decide to go ahead with a width restriction, you would then get the chance to formally give your support or object to the proposal. The notice would be advertised in the Shropshire Star and on these webpages.
