Shropshire Council (School Streets Initiative – Various Roads, Oswestry) (No. 1) (Experimental Prohibition of Motorised Vehicles) Order 2024

On 11 June 2024 Shropshire Council made an order to place experimental prohibition of motor vehicles restrictions on the following lengths of roads in Oswestry:

  • Gateacre Avenue – its entirety
  • Gateacre Road – its entirety
  • Gittin Street North - from its junction with U0317 Liverpool Road / U307 Old Fort Road to its junction with U0314 Gateacre Avenue
  • Hillside – its entirety
  • Liverpool Road - from its junction with U0312 Gittin Street / U0307 Old Fort Road to its junction with U0318 Lloyd Street
  • Old Fort Road - from its junction with U0312 Gittin Street / U0317 Liverpool Road to its junction with U0311 Caer Road

The restrictions will operate between 8am and 9am, and between 2:45pm and 3:30pm, Monday–Friday, during school terms at Woodside Primary School, Oswestry.

Holders of a school streets permit, emergency vehicles being used in an emergency, medical practitioners, statutory undertakers and vehicles engaged in building or maintenance work, taxis and buses, Royal Mail vehicles, funeral and wedding vehicles, and motorised wheelchairs, will be exempt from these restrictions.

This order comes into effect on 24 June 2024 and will operate for a period of up to eighteen months. The council will consider in due course whether its provisions should continue in force indefinitely.

If you wish to question the validity of this order, or of any of its provisions, on the grounds that they are not within the powers conferred by the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, or that any requirement of the act or of any instrument made under it has not been complied with in relation to the order you may, within six weeks from 11 June 2024, apply for the purpose to the High Court.
