To help improve visitor experience at the Severn Valley Country Park we are undertaking a visitor satisfaction survey. We would like to hear from you, even if you don't use the park.

We have a short survey that should only take a few minutes to complete and we'd be be grateful if you could take the time to complete it and help us to develop and improve. Let us know what you think we could do better and if there are any changes we could make to help encourage more visitors to the park.

A bit about us

The Severn Valley Country Park is an award-winning 51 hectare site on the banks of the River Severn and is dedicated to the quiet enjoyment of the countryside by all the family and has something to offer all year round.

  • In winter, spend some time in our bird hide - you never know what you may spot on our wetland amongst the reed beds and mudflats!
  • Spring is a lovely time to be by the riverside, the air alive with birdsong amongst the willow trees…you might even spot an otter.
  • In summer, feel the sun on your face as you wander through fields full of wildflowers buzzing with insects.
  • Autumn is the time to have a stroll through the woodlands, with the trees glowing with golden hues, reds and yellows.

The story of Severn Valley Country Park began in the 1800s when coal mining began in Highley. Production switched to the Alveley Colliery in 1936 and at its peak employed 1000 men and produced some 300,000 tonnes of coal a year. Mining ceased in 1969 and the area was badly scarred by spoil heaps.

In 1986 a reclamation scheme began, and in 1992 Severn Valley Country Park opened. It is now managed by Shropshire Council and attracts around 150,000 visitors a year.
