Forest Schools
We have exemplar woodland Forest School sites across the county.
These sites are situated:
- South of Shrewsbury, near Condover
- North of Shrewsbury, near Hadnall
- In the south of the county, near Ludlow
- In the Oswestry area, near West Felton
These are sites staffed by qualified Forest School leaders, employed by us. Local schools and settings can access sessions at these sites throughout the academic year. If you're a setting in Shropshire that would be interested in Forest School sessions, please contact us using the details on this page.
We greatly subsidise the cost of the sessions, with settings only having to pay a small fee and the cost of their transport to and from the sites.
The idea is that the school/setting will access Forest School sessions for the whole academic year. However, to enable other groups to access it, sessions are often broken down into visits for the whole or half of a term.
To maintain the quality of the experience, we ask that class numbers are kept low for Forest School sessions (15 children), and the adult-to-child ratio is kept high (similar to that of a school trip).
In addition to these exemplar sites and sessions, many schools now have staff who are Forest School leader-trained. They deliver Forest School sessions regularly in their own school grounds.
