Interim review of polling districts, polling places and polling stations 2024
We're conducting an interim review of polling districts and polling places in accordance with the Representation of the People Act 1983 (as amended by the Electoral Administration Act 2006) for the following polling places only:
Venue |
Details |
Army Reserve Centre |
Access to the site is no longer available due to security concerns/lack of service personnel on site |
Bagley Sports and Social Club |
Requirement to identify a back-up venue to use during elections with a small turnout as main hall would no longer be available due to use by the social club |
Belvidere School |
Request from a parent to identify another venue to enable the school to remain open to students during elections |
Farlow and Orton Village Hall |
Request from Wheathill Parish Council to move this parish to Cleobury North Village Hall. LJC - Farlow would continue to use Farlow and Oreton Village Hall |
Horeb Welsh Methodist Church |
Reviewing the current provision as the current facility may not be available long term. This venue will still be used for May 2025 elections |
The aim of the review is to ensure that:
- Electors in the parliamentary constituencies have such reasonable facilities for voting as are practicable in the circumstances
- As far as is reasonable and practicable, the polling places they are responsible for are accessible to all electors, and when considering the designation of a polling place, must have regard to the accessibility needs of disabled persons
In addition, the returning officer is required to submit their own proposals for future electoral arrangements.
The review won't consider changes to division or ward boundaries.
Definitions
- Polling district – geographical electoral areas into which wards and constituencies may be sub-divided
- Polling place – buildings or areas designated by the council where electors in a polling district go to vote in person
- Polling station – the number issuing desks in the building or area that is designated polling place
How the review is conducted
The returning officer for Shropshire Council will make comments on the existing polling places under review. In addition, representations are invited from other relevant individuals such as electors within the affected areas, elected members, local political parties, MPs, and organisations that have expertise in relation to access to premises for people with different forms of disability.
The final recommendations will be considered at council on 12 December 2024.
