Shropshire Council

The proclamation

Proclamation event in Shrewsbury at 1pm on Sunday 11 September

Following the sad death of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II, a formal proclamation was made in Shropshire on Sunday 11 September.

The event took place at the bandstand at The Quarry, Shrewsbury from 1pm. This saw the high sheriff reading the proclamation, and followed the proclamation being read at St James’s Palace and in Belfast, Cardiff and Edinburgh.

The proclamation of the new sovereign is a tradition dating back centuries to announce the accession, which takes place on the death of the reigning monarch.

Following the county declaration there were also a number of local declarations at 4pm on Sunday 11 September made across the county by town and parish councils.
