The Grove School, Market Drayton

20MPH road signDuring preliminary works, traffic surveys were undertaken for a duration of one week to obtain the average vehicle speeds outside school sites at peak times.

Data gathered during this exercise, when considered with the site location and traffic characteristics, determined that an appropriate method of controlling and reducing vehicle speeds outside of the school facilities would be the installation of a 20mph speed limit that is live 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

This would be implemented on site through the installation of ‘20’ terminal signs, as shown on this page, potentially with supporting ‘20’ roundels marked on the carriageway. As part of the wider scheme streetlighting levels will also be evaluated, with upgrades and vegetation clearance undertaken where necessary.
