Can we stop it?

We can mitigate the cause of climate change and global warming by reducing greenhouse gases (GHG) emitted into the atmosphere. However, 'stopping it' any time soon is unlikely. Even if we prevented all GHG emissions today, and became globally net zero tomorrow, it would take approximately 100 years for the atmosphere and climate systems to recover to a more balanced state. However, in terms of planetary timescales this is of course not long at all (!), so there's some reassurance there, and it's certainly worth mitigating GHG emissions right away.
