Role of the Educational Psychology Service
The Shropshire Educational Psychology Service (EPS) offers services for the local authority and to schools and other settings for children and young people between the ages 0-25.
Educational psychologists have extensive training in psychology and knowledge of child development.
- They assess barriers children may experience to their learning.
- They provide advice and training on how schools might help children and young people to learn and develop.
- They make recommendations and outcomes, or develop strategies in partnership with schools, to help a child or young person learn more effectively. This may include improvements to learning environments, advice on curriculum materials, teaching approaches, mental health and behaviour support.
Educational psychologists also keep up-to-date with best practice, policy and research relating to how children and young people learn, and ensure that this informs local policy and practice.
All of our educational psychologists are registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and hold up to date Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) certificates.
- Please note that the Shropshire EPS are unable to offer any private assessments and would signpost to the British Psychological Society (BPS) to search for a local private psychologist. Please check that the psychologist is registered with the Health and Care Professions Council. We would encourage parents/carers to discuss any concerns with their child’s Headteacher, Special Educational Needs & Disabilities Co-ordinator (SENDCo) or the Information, Advice and Support Service (IASS), before engaging a private psychology assessment.
